Paw Wow Update

LUCAS’ First Annual Paw Wow took place on April 21st at Dolphin Beach in Montclair, VA. The weather was picture perfect, sunny and in the 70’s as if we had ordered it in advance. At least 38 happy dogs and their human companions took a lovely 2 mile walk through parts of Montclair, while over 150 others visited with each other and the exhibitors. We even had 1 cat and a Cockatoo attend. The day was absolutely beautiful and everyone especially the dogs seemed to have a great time.

Wet Nose Dog Bakery and Barkley Square Dog Bakery and Pet Boutique offered all kinds of home made goodies, some of which their human companions wanted to eat and offered a wonderful selection of unique pet items to spoil our best friends. Simply Pawesome offered all natural pet treats for food sensitive dogs that smelled good enough to eat and even my Lab who is allergic to everything enjoyed the gluten free goodies without any reaction. Karing by Kristina shared with Paw Keepers and Becky’s Pet Care in providing information on their various pet services. Pup-N-Iron Canine Fitness and Learning Center provided information on natural pet foods and the multitude of pet services they offer.

Information on spay and neuter, pet adoption and local rescues was readily available from PWSPCA, Noah’s Arc Foundation, Pet Assistance League (PAL), Mid Atlantic Great Dane Rescue and the Prince William Animal Shelter.

The humans weren’t completely left out, as Jo Powell, Financial Advisor for First Command Financial offered her expertise and services to our participants. Diane Roadcap, the famous Animal Communicator, was as fascinating as ever as she told people what their furry companions had on their mind. Janet Davis Photography took beautiful portrait quality photos of several participants and their dogs. Dr. Cunningham of Pet Calls Mobile Vet. Clinic was on hand to provide rabies shots and micro-chips. The Teen Scouts of Troop 1970 made bandanas for all the dogs and baked goods for the humans. They also manned the food booth, completely selling out of hot dogs and baked goods.

The Portuguese Water Dog Club and Pup-N-Iron’s Drill Team demonstrations were great fun for the attendees to watch while enjoying a beautiful, relaxing day with their furry friends. All in all, we had a fabulous day and a great success thanks to those of you that attended, our sponsors, exhibitors and especially our volunteers.

LUCAS would like to congratulate Shannon Haley of Washington D.C. as the winner of the Week in Las Vegas!
